Ashfield School's vision
of an innovative and imaginative provision of
high quality specialist and general education
for all students is underpinned by the construction
of the Ashfield Skills Centre (ASC).
|
|
|
|
The Ashfield Skills Centre
is a £6.1 million project which will deliver
5 discrete, but philosophically linked, learning
environments. The centre includes:
8 Vocational
Units: All these
units will be equipped to industry standard specification
and will mimic an industrial or commercial context.
Course content and delivery will be provided by
industrial and commercial training providers in
Textiles, Business, Child Care,
Health & Beauty and ICT.
3 Industrial Units:
Stand alone industrial units which will deliver
"hard" vocational courses to include
construction, plumbing, automotive, electrical,
catering and hospitality courses delivered by
industrial training providers RAC, Carillion
and Charnwood.

The POST 16 area consists of:
16 general teaching areas
1 science area
1 science and electronics area
3 ICT areas
1 Product Design: Resistant Materials and Graphics
area
1 Product Design: Textiles area
1 Food Technology area
1 social area
3 administration and support areas
The POST 16 Centre allows students to experience
the highest quality learning environment. It links
naturally into The Ashfield Plaza. This enables
students to experience ground breaking vocational
education set in a genuine commercial and vocational
context. This allows us to smash the false dichotomy
between vocational and academic route ways to
success. This area is protected for one hundred
per cent use by POST 16 students. Vocational education
must be seen to have parity of esteem in terms
of its capacity to deliver achievement for all
students.
The increased relevance and motivation engendered
by these new courses will raise standards across
the board but most especially in context of increased
employability. |
