Modern Languages

In Year 7 students at Ashfield learn one of our three languages: Spanish, German or French. Students cover the basics such as greetings, introductions and personal descriptions. By the end of the year they are able to talk about themselves, their interests and be able to describe other people. At the end of the year they take part in Linguavision, a singing competition with songs in different foreign languages. For the rest of the Key Stage students continue with their study of the language that they began in Year 7. They study the language in more detail, cover more complex grammar and begin to extend their confidence when speaking and writing in the language and build on their language learning to cover key aspects of assessment that will prepare them for the GCSE course.

For further information about what is taught in KS3 please read the KS3 course descriptors.
