When the opportunity to nominate their BTEC Musical Theatre students for the National Showstopper Challenge Award 2018 came up, the Drama Department staff at Ashfield School knew they just had to!
Students had worked tirelessly on the lead up to their Showcase performance evening in February, where the highlight of the entire evening was a medley of show-stopping numbers from the West End's new show 'Hamilton'. This was the element that staff decided to enter into the national competition and it was clearly the right decision…not only did the students win, but they also had the honour of being invited to perform their work live in Westminster Hall in London.
The students did not disappoint, and performed with total professionalism and enthusiasm on the day, representing the Drama Department and Ashfield School brilliantly! They received a great deal of positive feedback from audience members, including Paul Webster (the subject adviser for the entire BTEC specification), who commented upon their impressive level of talent.
But final word has to go to one of the participating students, who said of the experience: "I honestly can't find the words to describe the feelings I had on stage…I am so proud to have represented Ashfield School; the drama department has a big piece of my heart."
